今更なんですが、開園準備を進めるにあたりフェイスブックをはじめました！
周りの人はみんなやっている中、自分だけ始めるタイミングを逃してしまい、別にいいかなと感じてそのままでした(笑)

I know this may sound out of touch with reality or something too late to do, but as part of establishing our new preschool, I signed up on FaceBook for the first time and began using it.

All the people around me, of course, have been using FaceBook social media for a very long time, but I did not feel the need or urge to join them and I just lived without it.

今回必要にかられてフェイスブックを始めたわけですが、アメリカのときの小学校時代の友達につながり驚き！２５年ぶりくらいだったんですが、おそるおそるメッセージを送ってみると相手も覚えていてくれました。昔話に花がさきました🌸

Although I may have started FaceBook out of necessity, I was impressed by the fact that I was able to contact a former friend of mine from elementary school days through this medium. It has been about 25 years ago since my old time friend and I last met. I nervously sent him a message and he easily recognized me and replied. It was much fun to communicate on this social media about our good old school days, as we recalled some exciting memories.

また、本ブログを見たイギリス・ロンドンの新聞記者の方からメッセージをいただきました。広島の歴史や第二次世界大戦のことを取材されている方で、広島についていろいろ検索されているときに、英語で書かれている当ブログが検索でヒットし、コンタクトをとってくれたそうです。

Luckily, I also received a message from a journalist in London, who is researching about the history of Hiroshima and World War 2. He happened to find our website simply because we write our blogs in both English and Japanese.

私はテニスが好きで、フォアハンドはこう打つ！とか体幹はこう使う！というマニアックな情報をよく漁っているのですが(笑)、日本語だけで検索する情報と、英語も使って検索する情報ではその量が圧倒的に違います。英語版ウィキペディアで調べてみたところ、世界のウェブサイトで使用されている言語において、日本語のウェブサイト情報量は3.6%。それに対して英語のウェブサイト情報量は53.1%！（２０１８年９月７日時点）約１４倍ほどの差があります。

I love tennis and I tend to search for technical information like how to hit a powerful forehand or how to use the entire body effectively, and stuff like that.

The difference in the amount of information you can find when you use only Japanese or English is massive. According to Wikipedia, the amount of information on websites written only in English is 53.1%, and that of Japanese websites is 3.6%. The difference between the information in English and Japanese is about 14 times more.

英語を使えるということは、これらの情報に自由にアクセスできるということです。趣味、旅行、勉強、仕事、あらゆることにおいて選べる情報が多くなると、そのぶん知識や選択肢が広がることにもつながります。

Being able to communicate and comprehend in English means that you are able to access a lot of information around the world. Doing hobbies, traveling, studying, jobs information, almost everything written in English is accessible and one is able to acquire more information and knowledge as well as other alternatives.

今、ITの発展によって世界はかつてないほどつながり、かつてないほど小さくなりました。グローバル化が進む中、コミュニケーションをとったり、情報を収集したりする過程で、英語や国際感覚は情報化社会においてなくてはならない能力です。

With the improvement of Information Technology, the world feels closer and smaller than ever. English skills and international mindedness are crucial in communicating or collecting information in the globalized world that we live in today.

本園の子どもたちにとって、国際感覚を育て、英語力の下地を養うということは、将来世界で輝く人材になっていくために大きな意味があります。

For the children who would be attending our preschool, it is very important that we nurture them to be international minded individuals, educated with the basics of English skills so that they can flourish and succeed in their future careers.

もちろん、外で元気に遊び、様々な活動をし、友達や先生と触れ合いながら人と人とのつながりを学んでいくというリアルな世界での豊かな体験をないがしろにすることはありません。

Of course, playing outside actively, trying various activities, and socializing with friends and teachers are the most essential aspects of our preschool and we will not make light of the fact that they contribute to the real-life experiences children develop through such interactions.

デジタルネイティブとよばれる今の子どもたちに必要な力をしっかり見極め、その力を伸ばしていきたいと思います！

Children of today are called ‘digital-natives’, but we will determine what kinds of abilities or skills are essential and we will introduce, pursue, develop, and improve them effectively and efficiently every step of the way to success!
