- 🌜初めての英検ジュニア受験！🌛 🌜The first Eiken Junior test children took!🌛
昨年度末にスカイスターサンの希望者の子どもたちが英検ジュニアに挑戦しました。今回は初めてということで一番下のブロンズレベルに挑戦しました。一番下のレベルと言っても、受験目安としては小学校での英語活動１年半〜２年程度の子どもが受けるものです。
日本英語検定協会のウェブサイトによると、詳細な内容は以下の通りです。
At the end of the previous academic year, the children from Sky Star and Sun, who decided to take the Eiken Junior test challenged themselves with the test. It was their first time so they all took the bronze test, which was the first (and lowest) level. Having said that, although the level is the least, it is originally aimed at Elementary students who have studied English for one and a half to two years.
According to the Eiken foundation, the test content is as follows.

こちらのテストを今回３歳〜５歳の本園の子どもたちが受験したその結果は…
The test results for our 3 to 5-year-old children were as follows:
なんと１５名受験して平均点が８２点でした！
このうち、１名は１００点、５名が９０点以上の高得点を獲得しました！
15 children took the test and the average score was 82! 1 child got 100% and 5 children scored more than 90%.
「テストを受ける」ということ自体がこの年齢の子どもたちにとっては初めての経験です。最初は何をどのように書いたらいいのかまったくわからなかったので、数回質問の答え方を練習しました。ただし、内容に関する練習はほぼしておりません。あくまでも普段の遊びや生活の中で使う中で習得した英語力を計った結果です。
こちらの結果はもちろん子どもたちの英語力を計る上でわかりやすい数値です。しかし、こういったテストで高得点を目指す英語教育を本園はしません。高得点を目指す英語はすなわち「勉強」につながります。本園がめざす理想の英語イマージョン教育は、日々の保育・生活・遊びの中で自然と英語に親しみ、「英語が好きになる」ことや国際バカロレアに取り組むなかで子どもたちの「主体性や探究心」が育つことを何よりも重視しております。ですから、来年また希望者には英検ジュニア受験の機会を設ける予定ですが、高得点を目指すということではなく、あくまで一つの英語力の目安ということで保護者の皆様にはご理解いただければと思います。

It was the first time for our children to actually take a formal test. At the beginning, the children had no idea about the test contents and what was expected. Several practice sessions on how to answer the questions were organized for the children. However, it did not include any English studying. MIP wanted to measure only the level of English that the children had acquired through everyday play and preschool life.
The results showed that the children’s level of English was at par with the language and text used on the test. This made the test easy for most children. However, the preschool does not aim for children to obtain “high” scores on such tests. Aiming for high test scores leads to “studying”. The ideal English immersion education that MIP is aiming for is to allow children to have fun with English by being exposed to the language through everyday preschool life, play activities and childcare. The most important things are for children to love English as teachers nurture student agency and independence which relates to the principles of the International Baccalaureate program. We are planning on having the test again this academic year, but again not for high scores. MIP only wants to simply make references to the Eiken Junior test results as an evaluation measurement of the children’s English abilities.
