突然ですが、クイズです！次の言葉は何を意味しているでしょう？

かちまんぼ
うんぼ

正解は…

かちまんぼ→かたぐるま

うんぼ→おんぶ

どろだんご→れごらんど（名古屋にあるテーマパーク）

…でした！超難問だったと思います(笑)

これらは、自分の娘がまだ言葉がおぼつなかいときに使っていた言葉です。本人はうまく言えてるつもりなのが、とてもかわいく愛らしいです。小さな子どもたちと接していると、このようにまだうまく言葉を発音することができない場面によく出会います。まだ言葉もおぼつかない子どもたちは、もちろん文字で言葉を認識していません。音から入ります。そして間違えることを恐れません。そうして、何回も何回もその言葉を使い続けるうちに正しく言えるようになります。

英語（ほかの言語）も同様です。英語の複雑な音（LとRの違い、thの発音など）も耳でしっかり認識し、間違えることを恐れたり恥ずかしがったりすることもなく、何回も繰り返しその言葉をまねして発します。そして、きれいな発音と自然な言い回しを獲得していきます。子どものうちに英語に接するメリットの一つですね。

親として、大人として、また保育者・教育者として、子どもたちと接する上で、正しく話せるように支援し、導いていかなければいけないのでしょうが、その反面いつまでもかわいい話し方でいてほしいと思うのは私だけでしょうか…(^_^;)

I don’t think anyone could get them all right. Besides, I will be surprised if someone did.

These are words that my daughters used to use when they just started speaking a few words in Japanese. There are times when children use words that are not quite right. It sounds interesting how children cannot say the right words and often they say words wrongly, they look cute and adorable. However, this is the first step of speaking and children do not recognize words through letters. They start by listening and imitating the sounds. They are not afraid of making mistakes. They repeat those words over and over again until they are finally, able to say them correctly.

This is the same with learning English or any other language. Children listen and imitate difficult pronunciations in English such as “l” and “r” sounds or the “th” sounds which most Japanese people find difficult to pronounce. They do not feel afraid or embarrassed to make mistakes and try saying those words again and again, and this is how young children acquire beautiful English pronunciation.

As a parent, adult, or a teacher, we need to help children to pronounce words correctly. On the other hand, there is a part of me that wants children to keep speaking the way they do, looking cute and adorable with the little mistakes they make.(^_^;)
