Setsubun This year’s Setsubun was another lively and spooky day at our preschool. The children joined the bean-throwing activity with a mix of excitement, fear and a little nervousness! Some children showed their own courage and determination as they took part in the tradition. On this special day, even our kitchen staff put on “oni” (ogre) hats from morning until evening! The whole preschool enjoyed the festive Setsubun atmosphere together, making it a wonderful opportunity to experience a bit of fear, how to overcome and appreciate a seasonal Japanese tradition. There was lots of laughter after the ‘demons’ exited, but some kids took a while to calm their nerves as part of growing up. We hope this Setsubun remains a memorable and meaningful celebration for the children, one they will carry in their hearts.
